Man fatally struck in Wilmington hit-and-run

WILMINGTON — A 36-year-old man was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle Monday in Wilmington, in a hit-and-run collision, as he possibly ignited fireworks, authorities said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics reported to the 700 block of North Fries Avenue, near West G Street, shortly after 9:10 p.m., according to spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The man was thrown a distance and landed partially beneath another vehicle exiting a shopping center, but was not trapped, Humphrey said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Humphrey said.

No other injuries were reported.

News video journalists at the scene said LAPD officers were investigating the collision as a hit-and-run.
